What We Do
The Community Relations Department builds a vibrant, sustainable Jewish future by cultivating relationships with community leaders and diverse ethnic, racial, religious and cultural groups while engaging in robust, public advocacy on behalf of the Jewish people.
Advocate for the Jewish Community
Federation is committed to advocating for our community’s wellbeing and strengthening our collective voice. We work with civic leaders, local officials, state and federal lawmakers, and the media on the issues that matter most including antisemitism, Israel, and communal security.
Counter Antisemitism
Federation plays a central role in responding to and addressing antisemitism impacting our community through proactive educational programs countering hate in K-12 schools, workshops facilitating effective local activism, and organized, partnership-driven incident response.
Promote Understanding & Allyship
Through local relationships with diverse ethnic, religious and cultural groups, Federation creates opportunities for education and allyship. Federation serves as the central bridge building organization for the Detroit’s Jewish community through interfaith events, leadership meetings, educational programs and support for grassroots initiatives like the Coalition for Black and Jewish Unity.
