Stronger together
About Israel & Overseas
Federation’s Israel & Overseas department (I&O) is about more than geography—it’s about people, purpose and shared Jewish identity. We create deep and lasting connections between Detroiters, Israelis and Jews all over the world, through meaningful relationships and transformative programs.
When Jewish communities are in crisis—whether in Israel or around the globe—we act with urgency, standing shoulder to shoulder with those in need. In a world challenged by rising antisemitism, we remain a steadfast source of strength, solidarity and support. Because no matter where we live, we are one Jewish family.
Let’s Get Started
I&O builds bridges—between people, places and communities through immersive travel, dynamic events, cultural exchanges and learning opportunities. These aren’t just activities. They’re powerful experiences that spark friendships, deepen understanding and ignite meaningful action.
Overseas
Support
Federation is committed to strengthening Jewish life around the world. Through our overseas partnerships, we help ensure the safety, dignity, and continuity of Jewish communities in over 70 countries. From urgent humanitarian aid to long-term community building, our support reaches beyond borders.
Shaliach Program
(Community Emissary)
Through our partnership with JAFI, the Israel & Overseas Department welcomes a Shaliach (Israeli emissary) to Jewish Detroit for a three-year stay. Shlichim like our own Lior Zisser-Yogev bring Israel to life—sharing stories, traditions, and everyday experiences that deepen our Jewish connections and strengthen ties with Israel. We’d love for you to meet Lior! Join a program, start a conversation or simply say hello—and discover how Lior is bringing Israel closer to Jewish Detroit. Together, we can create meaningful connections that last. Email: zisser-yogev@jewishdetroit.org. Phone: 248-642-6982
